Parker Brown, Inc. General Contractors has been nominated for the San Fernando Valley Business Journal (SFVBJ) Commercial Project of the Year Award. The 20-year-old, San Fernando Valley-based firm recently completed construction on a 35,000 square-feet Drivers’ License Processing Center in Granada Hills, for which they were nominated.
“They know what they’re doing,” said Los Angeles developer, Rickey Gelb of the Gelb Group, who commissioned Parker Brown to build the facility. “They’re honest. They provide cost breakdowns. They explain the pricing in detail. And, of course, the quality of the work is outstanding.” The company’s owners, John Parker and Scott Brown, pride themselves on finishing projects on time and under budget. Nearly 90 percent of the company’s clients are repeat customers, including UCLA Health Systems, which has contracted Parker Brown for over a dozen projects in the last three years.
This reputation, along with a strong team of employees has been the reason for the company’s overall success over the last twenty years, according to Parker. “We believe strongly in the people we have,” he said. “It’s been our downfall during a recession or two, but we don’t just dump people when the business gets bad. We are loyal to them and they are loyal to us.” Parker and Brown foster a strong team environment by encouraging company outings and by leading through example in establishing a strong business partnership. “The partnership is successful because of our integrity and like-minded values. We don’t have to spend long hours discussing things,” said Brown. “We know the right way to do things. I honestly can’t recall a real dispute John and I have had over the years.”
The company is poised for continued success after a strong finish to 2014. Gelb endorsed the company he contracted to construct his latest project. “I’ve been in construction for 40 years and it’s not easy to pull the wool over my eyes,” he concluded. “But these guys make things right and they don’t gouge you if there is a change.” It’s a company policy that has served both the owners and their clients well over the years, especially the last. “This was our best year ever,” Parker said. “Until next year.”
