The California Department of Motor Vehicles is making significant changes in its business approach and Parker Brown Inc. is helping with the transition.
Parker Brown is building out 35,000 square feet at 16201 San Fernando Mission Boulevard in Granada Hills for a new DMV customer-service center. Unlike most DMV offices, this center will not offer driver’s road tests. The 150 employees will focus on paperwork transactions and the like. The interior space is designed to be customer-friendly with long counters, a comfortable waiting area and private areas for taking written tests and completing paperwork. DMV needs the space because of new legislation that enables all residents of California to get an ID card. The DMV is building three similar centers, and the Granada Hills office is the first.
For Parker Brown, the job is slightly unusual because it is a turn-key job. Unlike many customers who want us to build the shell and allow them to complete the job, the DMV wanted us to build all the infrastructure for Wi-Fi and closed-circuit TV. We will be assembling the furniture. The job also required new air conditioning units, a new HVAC system and a new roof.
Total cost of the project is $2.125 million and the project manager is Tony Coffey. The property is owned by the Gelb Group.
