The Book Jewel will open this spring. Parker Brown is working on the building renovations.

Revival of a 1940s era building

If you have driven Sepulveda Boulevard on the way to LAX (and who hasn’t) you have passed the Jewel Building, a 1940s-era two-story building on West 87th Street.  The Book Jewel, a special dream of Drollinger Properties owner Karen Dial, should open in the spring. According to the Hometown News, the Jewel Bookstore will host “author events, creative writing readings led by local students, open mic nights, book club meetings and small intimate musical performances. The store will even have a piano to encourage spontaneous playing.”

Parker Brown Project Manager Kevin McLean and Supervisor Ariel Rios are overseeing the 8,400-square-feet restoration of the two-story building. There will be a restaurant and roof top terrace and an elevator added to the building.  Robert Ward is the architect on the project.
